Unusual suffragette fan with slogan “VOTES FOR WOMEN PENNSYLVANIA 1915”
(Women’s Suffrage Movement) A 7 1/2 x 8 1/4 in. printed fan bearing the slogan “VOTES FOR WOMEN PENNSYLVANIA 1915” stapled to a short piece of wooden lathing. The verso of the fan bears a series of “DO YOU KNOW” questions, both highly practical to the deeply philosophical: “That women vote in Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Washington, California, Oregon, Arizona Kansas and Alaska? Why not in Pennsylvania? … That women are the housekeepers of the world? Why not let them help with the pubic housekeeping? That this is a government of, for and by the people? Aren’t women people? That voting takes but a few minutes a few times a year and can be on on the way to market? That Mothers need the ballot to help regulate the moral conditions under which their children must be brought up? … That outside of suffrage organizations over fifty million people have officially endorsed Woman Suffrage? That all Women need the ballot because they are equally concerned with men in good government and are equally responsible for civic righteousness?”
Light toning, several pin holes, else very good.
